Y’ALL, I NEED SOME ASSISTANCE.

So, my birthday is coming up and I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a new, fancyish, camera (I’m camera-less atm and it kills me). A decent Nikon or Canon or something. Obviously I don’t need all the bells and whistles, but I want something better than the simple point/shoot for the tech-illiterates out there. Anyone have any suggestions of good cameras that won’t completely break the bank?
